Fortaleza opens 13 health care centers this weekend to attend to flu cases
The city of Fortaleza is opening 13 health care centers this weekend to provide assistance for mild flu symptoms as respiratory illnesses circulate more widely.
This weekend, on March 14 and 15, the city of Fortaleza will open 13 health care centers to enhance support for residents during a peak period for respiratory illnesses. These facilities will operate from 8 AM to 5 PM, and pharmacies will also remain open for medication distribution. The initiative is particularly aimed at patients exhibiting mild flu symptoms such as low-grade fever, cough, headache, and runny nose.
The Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS) has advised individuals experiencing moderate to severe symptoms to seek care at the Emergency Care Units (UPAs) instead. This strategy is part of the SMS's Seasonality Plan, which aims to strengthen the municipal healthcare network and organize patient flow during spikes in viral transmission, with a focus on primary care. This approach ensures that the healthcare system can effectively manage increased demand and provide necessary care to those in need.
Last weekend, the opened health care centers reported approximately 1,350 consultations for flu-like symptoms, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives during periods of high respiratory illness circulation. The city's proactive measures reflect an ongoing commitment to public health and the well-being of its residents as the flu season progresses, highlighting the significance of accessible healthcare resources during critical times.
