Firjan launches tool to measure the influence of municipalities in Rio de Janeiro

Firjan has introduced the Mapa Rio Soft Power, a new tool designed to assess the influence and reputation of 20 municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

This week, Casa Firjan unveiled the Mapa Rio Soft Power, a pioneering tool aimed at evaluating the influence and reputation of 20 municipalities in Rio de Janeiro. The presentation was made to officials from the municipalities of Campos dos Goytacazes and São João da Barra, located in Northern Fluminense. This innovative study, developed by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan), seeks to provide local governments with insights into how municipal reputation can contribute to socioeconomic development.

The Mapa Rio Soft Power incorporates ten different indicators, merging economic, cultural, and academic metrics with symbolic and historical elements. These indicators include crucial data points such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), GDP per capita, Human Development Index (HDI), business density, academic density, presence of creative industries, as well as both tangible and intangible assets of the municipalities, and their local collaborations. The focus on these comprehensive metrics will help local administrations identify their strengths and weaknesses in terms of influence.

Oswaldo Gama Neto and Paulo Vitor Ramalho, the researchers behind this initiative, emphasize that this tool also draws on successful international examples, thus providing a framework that municipalities can aspire to emulate for their growth. With this approach, Firjan aims not only to facilitate municipal self-assessment but also to foster competitive development within the state, potentially leading to better governance and improved quality of life for residents.
