Enefit will heat Narva with a 20-kilometer heating pipe

Enefit plans to lower heating costs for Narva residents by using a new 20-kilometer heating pipeline connected to the 5th energy block of the Estonia power plant.

Enefit Industry has secured the heating tender for Narva, committing to provide a more affordable heating solution through a 20-kilometer heating pipe connected to the new 5th energy block of the Estonian power plant. This move aims to significantly reduce current heating costs that exceed 100 euros per megawatt-hour for residents. The new system is expected to provide a 40% reduction in heating prices, alleviating the financial burden on Narva's consumers while aiming to ensure stable heating supply across the city's network.

The chief criterion for selecting Enefit as the winning bid was the cost for end consumers, highlighting a shift in focus towards more economical energy solutions in the region. Pavel Rušeljuk, a member of the Narva Heating Network's board, emphasized that the new heating solution would not only lower costs but also take Narva off reliance on the Baltic power plant, which operates only under high electricity price conditions. This change reflects an effort to stabilize the heating supply against fluctuating energy market conditions.

Over the next two years, as the transition is completed, Narva will see its heating system powered partially by gas extracted from oil plants operated by the Estonian power plant. This shift to gas signifies an important transition in energy sourcing for the city, as Enefit plans to retrofit the 5th energy block for gas fuel, aiming for both cost-efficiency and a more sustainable energy future for Narva.
