In São Paulo, a motorcycle is stolen or robbed every 41 minutes, with a surge in incidents noted in January 2026.

According to a report by Bom Dia SP utilizing data from the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, a motorcycle is stolen or robbed every 41 minutes in São Paulo in 2026. In January alone, there were 202 reported thefts and 903 robberies of motorcycles, showcasing a troubling trend in vehicle security in the city. This figure adds to the staggering yearly totals of 4,300 motorcycle thefts and 10,955 incidents of motorcycle robbery in 2025, raising concerns among local authorities and citizens alike.

The report also highlights the neighborhoods most affected by motorcycle thefts in January 2026. The data indicates that Pedreira leads with 11 cases, followed closely by Capão Redondo and Parelheiros with 8 and 7 incidents, respectively. Other neighborhoods like Campo Limpo and Grajaú also report significant numbers with 6 incidents each, while Iguatemi, Jardim São Luís, Jardim Pedreira, and Jardim Ângela report slightly lower numbers. The concentration of thefts in these areas suggests socioeconomic factors that might be contributing to this spike in criminal activity.

Additionally, the report mentions alarming occurrences, such as a motorcycle dealership being targeted by criminals two times within a five-day span on Avenida Cupecê. This pattern not only raises urgent security concerns for the local population but also signals the pressing need for law enforcement to increase its presence and preventative measures in vulnerable neighborhoods to curb this wave of motorcycle thefts.
