The event titled "Not Just March 8. Stories of Women and Denied Justice" was organized by Italian female journalists at the CeoforLife in Piazza Montecitorio, Rome. It centered around the urgent need to address the alarming rates of femicide in Italy, showcased by the tragic stories of victims like Noemi Durini, Marianna Manduca, and Gabriela Trandafir along with her daughter Renata, who were all murdered despite having reported their aggressors multiple times. The emotional testimonials underscored the failures of the justice system in protecting these women and the need for greater accountability for perpetrators.
Elena Tiron, sister of one of the victims, passionately called for an end to the impunity often granted to killers of women, emphasizing that this approach leads to continued violence. Discussions at the event highlighted the critical need for legislative changes, including proposals to eliminate the privileges sometimes granted to offenders of gender-based violence. Tiron and other advocates are actively gathering support, aiming to collect 50,000 signatures to push for a law that would hold offenders accountable and prioritize the safety of women.
