I. Ruginienė met with representatives of farmers: discussed new tax, milk prices, and ILTE loans
Lithuanian Prime Minister I. Ruginienė met with farmer representatives to discuss a proposed new tax, declining milk prices, and preferential loans from the National Development Bank.
During a meeting with representatives of the farming community, Lithuanian Prime Minister I. Ruginienė expressed her belief that the implementation of a new tax should be postponed due to the heavy burden it could place on farmers. She indicated that discussions had already taken place with relevant ministers about delaying this tax to alleviate difficulties faced by the agricultural sector at this time. The proposal reflects an understanding of the agricultural community's challenges and a commitment to addressing their concerns.
Additionally, the meeting was marked by discussions about the ongoing decline in milk prices, which has been a pressing issue for farmers. Representatives from the Lithuanian Farmers' Union suggested that the government approach the European Commission for targeted support from crisis reserves, as well as advocate for a reduction in bureaucratic burdens that hinder farmers' operations. Ruginienė recognized the importance of leadership from the Ministry of Agriculture to tackle these issues and assured that the proposed solutions would be discussed at the government level soon.
The topic of preferential loans provided by the National Development Bank (ILTE) was also brought to the table, with farmers expressing concerns about the process of obtaining these loans. Ruginienė committed to discussing these issues further with the Minister of Finance, indicating that the government is attentive to the needs and suggestions of the agricultural sector as it navigates these economic challenges.
