Zero Fare in Bragança Paulista: Buses will be free outside peak hours
Bragança Paulista will implement a free bus fare system outside peak hours starting April 5, 2026, for users with the Bragantino Citizen Card.
The third phase of the Tarifa Zero Program in Bragança Paulista is set to begin on April 5, 2026, providing free bus rides outside peak hours for users of the city's public transportation system holding the Bragantino Citizen Card. This initiative was announced by the mayor during a meeting at the municipal office, highlighting the city's commitment to making transportation more accessible to its residents.
This new phase expands upon previous implementations of the Tarifa Zero Program, which had already begun to provide reduced fares during non-peak times. Under the updated plan, free bus rides will be available during specific hours: from 4:00 AM to 6:29 AM, 8:31 AM to 4:29 PM, and 7:01 PM to 2:00 AM. During peak hours, however, the standard fare will still apply, ensuring that the city can manage the higher demand for transportation.
The gradual rollout of the Tarifa Zero Program has seen significant changes in fare pricing, initially lowering the cost of bus rides from R$4.50 to R$2.50 in its first phase, thereby indicating an ongoing effort by the local government to alleviate transport costs and encourage the use of public transport. The program aims to enhance public accessibility and reduce congestion in the city by incentivizing off-peak travel among citizens.
