'Great Danger' Alert Predicts Heavy Rains in Juiz de Fora and Region This Weekend

A weather alert for heavy rains in Juiz de Fora and surrounding areas has been issued, indicating unstable conditions due to a low-pressure system.

Juiz de Fora and surrounding regions are bracing for heavy rainfall this weekend, exacerbated by a low-pressure area that's predicted to cause unstable weather conditions. Climatologist Lizandro Gemiacki from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) suggests that this instability will persist in the Zona da Mata and Campo das Vertentes until mid-next week, creating ongoing precipitation risks. According to Gemiacki, the forecast indicates rain at any time throughout the day, with potential for prolonged periods of rainfall interspersed with typical afternoon and evening showers. While Sunday might see some breaks of sunshine, there remains a significant likelihood of intense rainfall towards the evening. The Inmet has issued an orange alert, categorizing the situation as 'great danger,' effective from midnight Friday until 11:59 PM Saturday, predicting rainfall rates between 30 to 60 mm per hour or 50 to 100 mm per day, alongside wind gusts of 60 to 100 km/h. This poses risks such as power outages and falling tree branches, prompting local authorities to prepare for possible emergencies in the affected areas.
