A French officer has been killed in Iraq's Kurdistan region due to an attack by an Iranian-designed Shahed drone, announced a French military official. This incident marks the first documented combat death of a French soldier resulting from drone warfare in the ongoing conflicts of the Middle East. Colonel François Xavier de la Chênaie stated that the officer, identified as Arnaud Frion, aged 42, was targeted while stationed near the city of Erbil in the Kurdistan region.

This attack brings to light the growing significance of drones in modern warfare, highlighting their capability of impacting battles at a relatively low cost.
