Criminals shoot at police patrol in southern Guayaquil: Police engaged in pursuit to apprehend them
A police patrol in southern Guayaquil was targeted by gunfire from two suspects, leading to a chase by law enforcement officers.
On March 12th, during a preventive patrol in the Malvinas area of southern Guayaquil, police officers from the Motorized Operations Group found themselves in an armed confrontation with two suspected criminals. The incident took place around 5:45 PM, when the patrol was unexpectedly shot at as they were performing control duties in the Los Claveles sector. Fortunately, the officers managed to avoid serious injuries and immediately initiated a response to apprehend the armed suspects.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Horacio PΓ©rez, who leads the Esteros district, the attack prompted an immediate alert for the local authorities to locate the assailants. These events underscored the risks faced by law enforcement in high-crime areas, as the police patrol was specifically tasked with ensuring public safety in a region known for violence and criminal activity. The aggressive response by the gunmen demonstrates the challenges police face when attempting to enforce the law in such environments.
With the assistance of Segura EP's monitoring center and the utilization of surveillance camera footage in the area, the police managed to track the suspected assailants approximately 45 minutes after the incident. This highlights the importance of technological assistance in modern policing, which is essential for effectively responding to violent crimes and securing community safety in high-risk zones like southern Guayaquil.
