Šilalė District Municipality informs: meadows and forests in the lowest areas are already being flooded

The Šilalė District Municipality warns that low-lying meadows and forests are experiencing flooding due to rising water levels in nearby rivers.

In the Šilutė District of Lithuania, flooding has begun affecting low-lying meadows and forests as water levels in various rivers rise dramatically. The Minija River, for instance, has seen significant increases, with water levels rising 6 cm overnight, bringing daily levels up to 258 cm. Moreover, the Šyša River has surged by 42 cm, reaching a height of 214 cm. These increases are part of a broader trend that is affecting the area significantly.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, including the rivers Minija, Atmata, and Rusnė, which have all registered varying degrees of increases in water levels. The Minija–Lankupiai section, in particular, has reached alarming levels of 612 cm after a 17 cm rise overnight. This developing situation not only poses risks to the local ecology but also to the communities living in these flood-prone areas.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow the latest updates from municipal authorities, as the situation could change rapidly. Understanding the dynamics of flooding and preparing for potential evacuations or protective measures will be crucial for minimizing risks associated with these rising waters.
