Police: This is how the school fire in Orivesi broke out

A gas-related fire at a school construction site in Orivesi, Finland, is not considered a criminal act, as revealed by the police investigation.

A fire that erupted at the Rovastinkangas school construction site in Orivesi this January is under investigation by the police, who have found no indication of criminal activity. The fire was initiated when a worker handling a heavy propane gas bottle pedestal inadvertently left a gas burner flame on, which led to a cascade of incidents. When the pedestal tipped over, it damaged the gas hose, allowing propane to leak into the air. The gas was ignited by the flame from the burner, causing the fire.

The worker involved was taken to healthcare services for evaluation following the incident. Inspection by occupational safety authorities ruled out the necessity of reporting the event as a workplace safety crime. Consequently, the police announced that they have concluded their investigation into the matter, exonerating the involved parties from criminal liability. The fire had previously been reported in January, drawing significant attention as school roofing materials caught fire during the installation phase.

Eyewitness accounts suggest a chaotic scene during the fire's outbreak, as one mother recounted her child being present at the site when it erupted dramatically. Witness statements indicated three explosions occurred, and debris, presumably metal, was propelled into the surrounding area. Fortunately, despite the alarming circumstances, it appears there were no serious injuries reported, which alleviated initial concerns over student safety during the incident.
