Supervision revealed six errors at the nuclear facility in Kjeller
A recent inspection at the Kjeller nuclear facility uncovered six deviations from safety regulations, with two of the findings remaining confidential.
In November last year, an inspection conducted by the Directorate for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (DSA) at the nuclear facility in Kjeller revealed six deviations, two of which are classified and not publicly disclosed. This raises serious concerns regarding the operational standards at the facility, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in nuclear operations.
Elisabeth Strålberg, the divisional director at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), acknowledged the findings and expressed a commitment to addressing the issues highlighted in the DSA's report. Strålberg stated that the IFE takes the supervision report seriously and is working systematically to meet the regulatory standards set by the DSA, reflecting a proactive stance towards compliance and safety assurance.
The DSA's conclusion indicated that the IFE has not sufficiently fulfilled its obligations and responsibilities to comply with current regulations and license conditions for the Kjeller facility. This situation raises questions about the regulatory framework governing nuclear safety in Norway and highlights the importance of rigorous oversight to ensure public safety in operational nuclear environments.
