Acre gains 94 beds since 2023 and now has over 1,700 in operation in the SUS
Acre has added 94 new beds to its public health system since the beginning of 2023, bringing the total to over 1,700 beds in operation.
Since the start of 2023, the state of Acre has seen the addition of 94 new hospital beds in its public health system, known as the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), leading to more than 1,700 beds currently operational. This development is part of a broader national trend of expanding the public hospital network across Brazil, with over 10,000 new beds reported nationwide during the same period.
The expansion of hospital beds in Acre includes 350 designated for surgical procedures, enhancing the state's capacity to support various healthcare needs. The increased bed availability aligns with the Brazilian government's initiative, including the 'Agora Tem Especialistas' program, which aims to improve access to consultations, examinations, and surgeries within the public health framework and aims to reduce waiting times for specialized care.
Currently, five specialist doctors are working under the new program in Acre, focusing on gynecological and oncological surgeries, particularly in the capital city. The overall strategy is designed to bolster healthcare services in a state that has been striving to improve health standards and ensure better medical assistance for residents.
