Paralympic medalist Rožkova: There's no need to be sad – life is beautiful and continues

Latvian Paralympic medalist Rožkova encourages people to embrace life despite challenges, emphasizing the inspirational role of para-athletes.

Rožkova, a Paralympic medalist and professional expert in environmental and information accessibility, has shared her perspective on life and sports. She believes that para-athletes serve as an inspiration to everyone, especially to those whose lives are affected by health issues. At a recent public appearance, she emphasized the importance of not dwelling on difficulties and instead cherishing the opportunities that life presents. She stated, "If you have a chance, let's go outside, breathe, and let go of some negative situations, but life continues."

Having made history as the first Latvian athlete to compete in both summer and winter Paralympic Games, Rožkova debuted in wheelchair fencing during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Fencing remains a passion for her, but she is also acutely aware of the physical demands that the sport entails. Rožkova noted that many days, due to muscle tension, she struggles to move, which adds a layer of complexity to her training and performance. She alternates between her love for fencing and the challenges posed by her physical condition.

Rožkova's life took a drastic turn in February 2009 when she suffered a life-changing injury during a snowboarding training session in Ozolkalns. Initially, she hoped the injury wouldn't be severe, but it ultimately led to her current challenges. This incident propelled her into the world of parasports, where she has found purpose and fulfillment, inspiring others along the way. Her journey reflects the resilience and strength of spirit often found in athletes facing adversity, and she encourages all to appreciate life in all its facets and to seize every opportunity offered by it.
