Heavy rainfall in southern Ethiopia's Gamo Zone has triggered devastating landslides, leading to the reported deaths of at least 70 individuals, as per local authorities. The most affected areas include several districts, with Degame experiencing some of the worst impacts. Emergency search and recovery operations are ongoing as teams work tirelessly to retrieve bodies and assist survivors in the aftermath of this tragic event.

The landslides have also inflicted considerable damage on housing, with reports indicating that around 190 homes sustained significant destruction. Approximately 575 families, totaling around 3,480 individuals, have been displaced due to the landslides, forcing them to seek refuge in temporary shelters. The regional response to this disaster includes the provision of emergency supplies, worth approximately 2 million birr (around $13,000), aimed at supporting those affected by this calamity.
