In a disturbing case from Bologna, Italy, a couple is facing legal action for aggravated maltreatment towards their daughter, who has faced severe health issues attributable to their negligence. While the mother was aware of her HIV-positive status during pregnancy, she and the father failed to disclose this to medical professionals and did not seek testing for their daughter after her birth in 2017. This omission led to a lack of medical care, including vaccinations, until the girl was nearly six years old, resulting in serious health complications.

The situation escalated when the child began showing signs of severe illness, including recurring fevers and a persistent cough, prompting her to finally receive medical attention in July 2023. A pediatrician, who evaluated the girl, discovered the stark neglect and the need for immediate medical intervention, including treatment for Aids and other infections. Despite the clear necessity for medical care, the parents reportedly impeded treatment and refused to cooperate with healthcare providers.

The child's current living situation involves residing in a foster home with her mother, while she attends school in the province.
