Call for more active state-funded bowel cancer screening
The National Health Service in Latvia is urging citizens to participate more actively in state-funded bowel cancer screenings.
The National Health Service (NVD) in Latvia has issued a call for citizens to engage more actively in state-funded bowel cancer screening. This initiative aims to ensure that people are aware of their health status and can detect adverse changes early on. March is recognized globally as colorectal cancer awareness month, during which emphasis is placed on bowel health and educating the public about the benefits of regular preventive screenings.
In Latvia, state-funded bowel cancer screening is available, and it is recommended for individuals at a certain age. Specifically, both men and women aged between 50 and 74 are advised to undergo this screening every two years. This age group is defined based on recommendations from the World Health Organization and professional medical associations, as the risk of developing colorectal cancer increases significantly during this period.
To participate in preventive screening, patients need to first contact their family doctor to schedule an appointment. The NVD aims to enhance public awareness and participation in this crucial health initiative to reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer through early detection and timely intervention.
