Teenager Holds Photoshoot in Cemetery to Honor Father Who Died of Cancer in AC: 'Dealing with the Pain'

A teenager in Brazil commemorated her 15th birthday with a special photoshoot in a cemetery to honor her father who passed away due to cancer.

Miriam Hadassa Freitas da Costa, a 15-year-old from Rio Branco, Brazil, chose to pay tribute to her late father by conducting a unique photoshoot in the cemetery where he is buried. Her father, Sebastião Mendes da Costa, a distinguished lieutenant colonel and founder of the Special Operations Company (COE), succumbed to stomach cancer on October 26, 2024, just eight months after his diagnosis. This poignant commemoration aligns with Miriam's birthday on February 25, the same date her father used to celebrate annually.

The concept for the memorial photoshoot was inspired by a similar tribute she had seen on social media. Miriam expressed her feelings, stating that seeing another young person honor their parent in such a way solidified her decision to do the same. This emotional undertaking not only reflects a personal connection to loss but also represents a broader societal acknowledgment of grief and remembrance, especially among younger generations who are navigating the complexities of loss.

The photoshoot took place on February 13, with the celebration of her birthday three days later incorporating the shared memories captured during this somber yet beautiful exercise. By sharing her experience, Miriam hopes to encourage others to find meaningful ways to honor their loved ones who have passed, showcasing the importance of remembering and celebrating life even amid sorrow.
