'Language like road-side goons...', AIMIM leader reacts to warning from Saharanpur CO regarding Namaz enthusiasts
AIMIM leaders have reacted strongly to the Saharanpur CO's warning against public prayers and protests related to international issues during the Friday Namaz.
In Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the district administration prepared extensive security arrangements for the Friday prayer, known as Alvida Jumme. During the prayer at the Jama Masjid, scheduled for 1:38 PM, three companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and 200 recruits were deployed. The police imposed a complete ban on public prayer, citing the need to maintain law and order in a sensitive environment and to prevent any potential communal unrest. The CO, Kuldeep Kumar, held a meeting with the Peace Committee where he issued a stark warning against protests related to international issues.
During the Peace Committee meeting, CO Kumari provocatively suggested that those concerned about conflicts such as the Iran-Israel war should go to Iran to fight, emphasizing that any disruption caused by such international disputes would not be tolerated in India. He highlighted that the police would take strong action against any activities that might disturb the peace during Namaz. The comments drew sharp criticism from leaders of the Congress and AIMIM parties, who expressed discontent over the CO's language, describing it as "road-side goons' language".
This incident underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding religious practices and the handling of communal sentiments in India, particularly in sensitive areas like Uttar Pradesh. By placing strict measures around Friday prayers and making comments about international affairs, the administration is taking a pro-active stance against potential unrest, although this approach is being challenged by political leaders who argue that such warnings exacerbate tensions and limit religious freedom.
