The centenarian sculptor and painter Stanislav Kolíbal exhibits at the Prague Gallery Skleňák

A new exhibition featuring works by acclaimed artist Stanislav Kolíbal and his family opens at the Skleňák Gallery in Prague.

On March 12th, a significant exhibition titled 'Sculptures. Portraits. Illustrations.' was inaugurated at the Skleňák Gallery in Prague, showcasing the diverse works of Stanislav Kolíbal, a centenarian artist renowned for his contributions to sculpture, painting, and scenography. The exhibition also displays works from his wife, Vlasta Prachatická, and daughter, Markéta, with contributions from his son, architect Pavel Kolíbal. This exhibition emphasizes the family's collective artistic legacy and runs until May 24th.

The opening event included notable representatives from Prague 6, the local district responsible for operating the gallery, which is situated in a functionalist building at Náměstí Svobody. Jaroslav Nešetřil, the exhibition curator, praised Kolíbal as an artist of international importance, with his works present in numerous prestigious collections around the world. At 100 years old, Kolíbal's capacity for production has diminished, as he now finds it difficult to stand for extended periods, relying on a cane for mobility. He noted that he continues to create graphic works, which he can manage from a seated position.

Kolíbal's family legacy in the arts is profound; his late wife Vlasta, who passed away in 2022, was a sculptor, while their daughter is primarily a book illustrator. Their collective contributions to the arts not only highlight the individual talents within the Kolíbal family but also serve as a testament to the enduring nature of their artistic expression. As the public engages with this exhibition, it offers an opportunity to reflect on both the personal and artistic journey of Kolíbal and his family.
