Ramadan: Cleric urges Muslims to be exemplary ambassadors of Islam
A cleric in Nigeria calls on Muslims to embody the true essence of Islam through moral values and good conduct during Ramadan.
During a Ramadan lecture organized by Nollywood director Okiki Afolayan in Ogun State, Islamic cleric Alli Abdulquadr Asaaju emphasized the importance of Muslims acting as positive representatives of their faith. He urged the audience to uphold moral values and practice good conduct, illustrating that being a true Muslim extends beyond the five daily prayers. Asaaju's message highlighted the significance of embodying the teachings of Prophet Muhammad in everyday life.
Asaaju addressed various social issues, including betting, theft, and dishonesty, urging his fellow Muslims to refrain from such behaviors. His sermon underscored the notion that Muslims should actively demonstrate their faith through acts of charity, particularly by giving zakat (almsgiving) to support the needy. He stressed that fear of Allah and moral decency are pivotal aspects of true Islamic identity.
The lecture serves as a reminder for the Muslim community to reflect on their responsibilities, not only during Ramadan but throughout the year. By practicing their faith earnestly and living up to the values of Islam, Muslims can counter negative stereotypes and inspire others through their actions, thereby promoting understanding and respect for their religion both within and outside their communities.
