MURIC seeks 100% crude supply to Dangote Refinery
The Muslim Rights Concern has urged the Nigerian government to ensure full crude oil supply to local refineries to foster energy self-sufficiency.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called for the Nigerian government to ensure that local refineries receive 100% of their crude oil supply. The organization believes that this would significantly boost the energy self-sustainability of Nigeria, which has long been reliant on crude oil imports to meet its energy needs. The plea highlights a growing concern over the need for Nigeria to enhance its local production capabilities and reduce dependency on foreign sources of petrol.
In a recent statement, the Executive Director of MURIC, Ishaq Akintola, praised the Federal Government's recent decision to suspend petrol imports, which reflects an increase in local production capacities. This announcement was made by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority. The governmentβs suspension of imports is seen as a significant step toward promoting local refineries, with MURIC commending the initiative as a means to prevent market saturation and ensure that local producers have adequate opportunities to thrive.
MURIC's endorsement of this new policy underlines a recognition that local refineries, such as the Dangote Refinery, can play a key role in Nigeria's energy landscape. However, for these refineries to operate effectively, the government must ensure that they receive sufficient crude oil supplies. Without adequate support and resources, the goal of achieving energy self-sufficiency may be difficult to realize, leaving the economy vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil markets.
