TS: Facebook removed the group of the True Finns
Facebook has removed the page of the True Finns from Masku, following reports of the sharing of racist memes.
Facebook has recently taken down the page associated with the True Finns in Masku, following allegations of the dissemination of racist memes reported by Turun Sanomat. The removal took place amidst local tensions, particularly led by the local Green party members, including Tarmo Koivunen, chairman of the Masku True Finns, who claims that the opposition has been displeased by the group's popularity.
According to reports, Minna Helin, a local Green representative, has demanded the removal of the page, stating that she has filed multiple complaints against the group. She asserts that the content shared on the page violates human rights and has garnered enough community concern to warrant action. The situation highlights the ongoing political clashes and community reactions to online content, raising questions about free speech and accountability on social media platforms.
Koivunen confirmed on Thursday night to Ilta-Sanomat that the group remains closed and characterized it as an unofficial group that had many members even outside of Masku. He pointed out that there is still a more formalized group, the Naantali and Masku True Finns group, available on Facebook that serves as an official communication channel, suggesting that the removal may not significantly impact the local True Finns political presence.
