Gunsan Shipyard, which has experienced long-term operational suspensions and reductions, is seeing renewed hopes for full operations with the announcement of a new investor.
Gunsan Shipyard, located in the Jeonbuk region and recognized for having the largest dry dock in South Korea, is inching closer to revival as a new investor, Ecoprime Marine Pacific which has HJ Heavy Industries as a subsidiary, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the acquisition of the shipyard's assets from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. This move marks the first step toward the complete overhauling and operational recommencement of the shipyard, which halted operations in 2017 due to a downturn in the shipbuilding industry but has seen some reactivation since 2022 in a limited capacity as a block construction facility.
