Pakistan conducts strikes in Kabul and border provinces of Afghanistan
Pakistan has carried out airstrikes targeting Kabul and border provinces in Afghanistan, resulting in casualties.
Pakistan has launched new airstrikes against Kabul and the border provinces of Afghanistan, which reportedly led to the deaths of four individuals in Kabul, according to Afghan government officials. A representative from Pakistan's security forces confirmed that these attacks were carried out on Thursday night, aimed at the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group that has been increasingly active in the region. This military action is part of a broader campaign Pakistan initiated in February due to a rise in militant assaults on its territory.
The Afghan Taliban administration has denied any involvement in facilitating or harboring militants on Afghan soil in response to these strikes. Kabul's police spokesperson, Khalil Zadran, reported not only the fatalities from the bombings but also indicated that fifteen others were injured as a result of the attacks, which struck residential areas. The tension between the two nations is exacerbated by these incidents, reflecting ongoing instability along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, and the complex dynamics of militant activity across these regions.
Further indications from Taliban officials, including spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, suggest that the strikes have also targeted areas in Kandahar, which is significant for being the residence of the top Taliban leader, as well as the provinces of Paktia and Paktika, which border Pakistan. This situation highlights the escalating conflict and the ramifications of cross-border militancy, raising concerns about regional security and the potential for further escalation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
