Valtteri Bottas: does not leave

Valtteri Bottas struggled during the initial practice sessions of the Formula 1 season's second race weekend in China, finishing 19th and trailing the fastest driver by over three seconds.

Valtteri Bottas faced a disappointing start to the second race weekend of the Formula 1 season in China, finishing 19th in the initial practice sessions. Bottas’s performance was considerably off the pace, as he lagged behind Mercedes' George Russell by 3.316 seconds. Despite some marginal improvement from the opening weekend, it was evident that Bottas and his Cadillac team still have significant challenges ahead in terms of competitiveness.

In contrast, Mercedes drivers displayed outstanding performances, with Kimi Antonelli being only 0.120 seconds slower than Russell, showcasing a clear gap between the top teams and the rest of the field. The results highlighted the dominance of Mercedes in the session, as McLaren's Lando Norris also trailed behind significantly. Bottas's primary consolation came from managing to complete 25 laps without mechanical issues, outperforming his teammate Sergio Perez, who struggled to keep up, recording the slowest time of the session after completing only 16 laps.

Looking forward, the focus will shift to the upcoming sprint qualifiers and the main race on the weekend, with Bottas aiming to improve his standings. The sprint qualifying is set to begin at 9:30 AM local time, and fans will be keen to see if Bottas can enhance his performance in the forthcoming contests, as he battles not only against the clock but also against fierce competition from better-performing teams in the circuit.
