Pakistan has carried out new airstrikes on Kabul
Pakistan has confirmed conducting airstrikes in Afghanistan targeting Taliban militants amidst accusations of the Taliban sheltering terrorists responsible for attacks on Pakistan.
Pakistan's security forces have officially acknowledged carrying out airstrikes in Afghanistan, specifically targeting Taliban militants based there. This military action follows assertions made by Pakistan that Afghanistan has provided shelter to terrorists who have recently launched deadly attacks on Pakistani border control points. The escalation of conflict has emerged as Pakistan declared war on Afghanistan at the end of February, ramping up tensions between the two neighboring countries.
In a tragic consequence of these operations, reports from the United Nations indicate that between February 26 and March 5, the Pakistani military's actions resulted in the deaths of 56 civilians in Afghanistan, including 24 children. The ongoing conflict has led to significant humanitarian challenges, forcing approximately 115,000 Afghans to flee their homes due to the violence. This situation highlights the dire need for international attention and intervention to protect innocent lives caught in the crossfire of geopolitical disputes.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has called upon both Pakistan and Afghanistan to halt their mutual hostilities, emphasizing that civilians on both sides of the border are suffering due to the escalation of violence. The ongoing conflict not only endangers lives but also severely hampers humanitarian efforts, making it difficult for the UN to deliver essential aid to those in desperate need, thereby necessitating immediate diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation and address the humanitarian crisis that has resulted from these military actions.
