WRC Rally Faces Terrible Conditions - Special Stage Cancelled
The first special stage of the Safari Rally has been canceled due to poor conditions.
The Safari Rally's initial special stage on Friday was canceled owing to significantly deteriorating road conditions. The World Rally Championship (WRC) announced via messaging service X that the third stage, Camp Moran 2, which commenced on Thursday, was scrapped due to 'degraded road conditions'. Despite the poor state of the roads, the rally is scheduled to resume at 8:11 AM Finnish time.
During the prior stage, which covered just over 24 kilometers, times varied drastically due to the muddy and hard-to-navigate trails. Toyota's Oliver Solberg claimed victory in this stage with a remarkable half-minute lead. His teammate Sami Pajari finished fifth but lost substantial time, finishing 2 minutes and 10 seconds behind Solberg. Esapekka Lappi, driving for Hyundai, shared his struggles with the challenging conditions during an interview, stating the difficulties faced in maintaining control of the vehicle.
Lappi expressed concerns about the safety of driving under such challenging circumstances, noting the lack of grip and the potential dangers involved, regardless of speed. His comments reflect the broader anxieties shared among drivers, as the rally continues in increasingly demanding conditions. Solberg currently leads the rally with a 33-second advantage over fellow competitor Elfyn Evans, setting the stage for a thrilling contest ahead as competitors adapt to the difficult roads.
