Saint Euphrasia from Constantinople - sharing wealth with churches and the poor

Saint Euphrasia's life story reveals her dedication to Christ and her commitment to helping others, stemming from her noble origins in Constantinople.

Saint Euphrasia, born in 380 AD in Constantinople as the only daughter of a senator, was connected to Emperor Theodosius. After losing her father, Antigonus, known for his kind heart and friendship with the poor, Euphrasia's future took a significant turn when her mother, also named Euphrasia, brought her to Egypt to visit monasteries and churches. It was there, at the age of seven, that she encountered an image of Christ, which inspired her to dedicate her life to Him, ultimately becoming a nun at a convent in Lower Thebaid, where her humility and devotion endeared her to the community. Following her mother's death, Euphrasia was left with a considerable fortune, which she chose to share with local churches and the destitute, showcasing her commitment to the principles of charity and faith.
