At least four dead in Pakistan strikes, says Kabul police

At least four people have been killed in strikes attributed to Pakistan in Kabul, according to local police.

Reports indicate that at least four individuals have died in recent strikes linked to Pakistan, with the city of Kabul bearing the brunt of this violence. According to a police spokesperson in Kabul, more than a dozen others have sustained injuries during these attacks, which reportedly targeted civilian residential areas. The circumstances surrounding these events highlight ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, particularly concerning the militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

A security source from Pakistan, speaking anonymously, has confirmed to AFP that these airstrikes were conducted overnight, targeting the TTP, a group that Pakistan has accused of perpetrating deadly attacks against its military forces. Since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has attributed hundreds of military casualties to the actions of the TTP, which operates from Afghan soil. Conversely, Afghan officials have continuously denied these accusations, stating that Pakistan’s claims are unfounded.

In a response to the situation, a representative from the Taliban in Afghanistan has stated that Pakistani forces attacked a Kam Air fuel storage facility near Kandahar Airport, accusing Islamabad of aggression. This incident exacerbates the already strained relations between the two nations and raises concerns about the implications for security and political stability within the region, as both countries navigate their mutual accusations and the broader impact of the TTP's activities.
