Saskatchewan Rush announcer buys hockey team in North Macedonia
Cody Janzen, known as the announcer for the Saskatchewan Rush, has purchased a hockey team in North Macedonia called The Skopja Herd, aiming to revive interest in the sport in the region.
Cody Janzen, recognized as the voice of the Saskatchewan Rush lacrosse team, has ventured into hockey ownership by buying The Skopja Herd, a team in North Macedonia. Janzen has a background in hockey, having played at minor and junior levels and even ran a hockey agency for about ten years. His decision to purchase a team stems from a desire to stay involved in the sport and help others pursue their passion for hockey.
North Macedonia has seen a decline in hockey interest, lacking minor hockey leagues for years. Despite this, Janzen is optimistic about revitalizing hockey in the country, recalling its rich history when Yugoslavia was known for its strong hockey presence in the 1960s and 70s. He envisions bringing back the sport to a nation that once celebrated hockey and hopes to inspire young players in the area.
Janzen emphasizes that while hockey may not currently be in the public eye in North Macedonia, he believes there is potential to reignite the flame for the sport. His ownership is not only about owning a team but also about fostering a new generation of hockey players and reigniting the passion for the game in a country filled with hockey history.
