“I want to be remembered as a good person by my daughter” - A 40-year-old man donates organs to save five lives after leaving his 60-day-old daughter
A 41-year-old man from Busan, who was declared brain dead, donated his organs, saving five lives and leaving behind a heartfelt message for his newborn daughter.
A 41-year-old Busan resident, identified as Park Seong-bae, made the noble decision to donate his organs after being declared brain dead due to complications from a severe headache. Despite receiving intensive medical treatment, he did not regain consciousness, prompting his family to consider organ donation as a means to help others in need. Park's family wanted to honor his legacy and ensure that his newborn daughter, who is only 67 days old, would remember him as a kind and generous person who made a significant impact on the lives of others.
Park, known for his warm-hearted nature and loving personality, had many friends and was cherished by his family. He worked at a shipyard and enjoyed sports, attending a soccer club on weekends, and was a devoted father who cherished his time with his daughter and wife. Following Park's brain death certification on January 19, 2023, his family made the difficult choice to proceed with organ donation, feeling it was an opportunity to extend life to others while preventing Park from suffering further.
His wife, Lim Hyeon-jeong, expressed her deep love and sorrow in a touching farewell message, promising to raise their daughter, Seolha, well and with plenty of love, while hoping that one day they might be reunited. The Korea Organ Donation Center reported the successful transplantation of Park's heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys, which directly saved the lives of five individuals, turning a tragic event into a lasting legacy of kindness and altruism.
