Jason McKay, a 54-year-old man from Regina, has died in custody at Saskatchewan Penitentiary just weeks after he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the second-degree murder of his wife, Jenny. His death occurred on a Wednesday, and Correctional Service Canada confirmed that McKay, whose life sentence began on February 24, 2026, had his next of kin notified. McKay had pleaded guilty to the murder charge after successfully appealing a previous conviction that would have led to a retrial.
