Hungary has returned two armored bank vehicles to Ukraine but retains $82 million in gold and cash, citing an investigation into alleged money laundering which Ukraine denies.
On March 12, Hungary returned two armored bank vehicles to Ukraine, belonging to Oschadbank, a state-owned institution. This return followed the detention of seven of the bank's employees on March 5 during their transport of cash and gold from Austria to Ukraine. The employees were released shortly after their detention, but Hungarian authorities seized the vehicles and the cash and gold they were transporting, leading to increasing tensions between the two countries.
