X-ray with artificial intelligence detects up to 10 diseases in people with HIV in Campo Grande

An AI-powered X-ray system has been introduced in Campo Grande to assist in the quick detection of multiple diseases in individuals living with HIV.

Starting Thursday, October 12, individuals living with HIV in Campo Grande will have access to an advanced X-ray machine featuring artificial intelligence designed to identify up to 10 different diseases in real-time. This innovative technology will be implemented at the Specialized Center for Infectious Diseases (CEDIP) and the Testing and Counseling Center (CTA) as part of the 'The Time is Now' project, which focuses on improving care for those affected by HIV.

The new X-ray technology incorporates virtual grid technology to enhance the screening process for tuberculosis and other thoracic diseases. According to Fernando Operman, a specialist in the system, the software can analyze the X-ray images almost immediately after they are taken, requiring minimal user interaction. While the system excels at suggesting tuberculosis diagnoses, it is also adept at detecting a variety of other conditions such as pulmonary nodules, malignant lesions, pneumonia, and pneumothorax, with an accuracy rate of between 97% and 99% for common thoracic examination findings.

This advancement is significant for the healthcare landscape in Brazil, particularly for those living with HIV, as timely diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve patient outcomes. By offering this cutting-edge diagnostic tool in specialized centers, the program aims to streamline healthcare delivery and ensure that affected individuals receive proper treatment and care quickly and efficiently.
