Mexico launches its largest commercial mission to Canada of the century: Economy presents initiative
Mexico is launching its largest-ever commercial mission to Canada from May 7 to 9, 2024, aiming to enhance bilateral trade and investment opportunities at a time when North American supply chains are undergoing a transformation.
The Mexican government is set to kick off a significant commercial mission to Canada from May 7 to 9, 2024, which officials are calling the largest of the century. The initiative aims to boost trade and investment relations between Mexico and Canada amidst a period of restructuring in North American supply chains. The mission seeks to exploit the increasing trade potential between the two nations, a relationship that has been strengthened through a nearly comprehensive preferential access agreement under a regional treaty.
Ximena Escobedo JuΓ‘rez, head of the Productive Development Unit at the Ministry of Economy, highlighted that the initiative is critical since Mexico ranks as Canadaβs fourth largest trading partner. By 2025, Mexico is projected to be the second country to which Canada exports the most, with a substantial increase of over 17% in its exports to Canada. The substantial trade links underscore the importance of this mission and the opportunities it could unlock for Mexican businesses and investors.
Furthermore, the focus on promoting advantageous tariff access is seen as vital for enhancing Mexico's presence in the Canadian market. With a backdrop of shifting economic dynamics in North America, this commercial mission is expected to facilitate deeper collaboration between Mexican and Canadian businesses, thereby fostering mutual economic growth and reinforcing valuable ties within the continent.
