Boy dies after allegedly stolen car crashes in Melbourne's south-west
A teenage boy died and several others were injured in Melbourne after a crash involving an allegedly stolen car that was reportedly trying to carry out a carjacking.
In a tragic incident in Melbourne's south-west, a teenage boy has died following a crash involving an allegedly stolen car that was involved in what police described as an attempted carjacking. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Derrimut Road in Hoppers Crossing, where the grey Skoda was pursuing another vehicle when it crashed into multiple other vehicles, leading to its rollover.
The boy, who died at the scene, has not yet been publicly identified. Accompanying him were a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, both of whom suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to a hospital for treatment but are now under police guard; the girl has since been released and is expected to provide more details in an interview later on. Thankfully, the occupants of the other vehicles that were struck by the stolen car did not sustain any injuries.
The stolen Skoda had been reported missing from a property in Maidstone just days before the crash, specifically between March 11 and 12. Authorities are now actively investigating, and they have called on the public to share any information that could assist in the case by contacting Crime Stoppers. This incident raises concerns about car theft and dangerous driving practices in the community, prompting discussions on safety and law enforcement responses to such crimes.
