The basket used to measure indigence increased more than the CPI in February

The basic food basket in Argentina rose by 3.2% in February, surpassing the inflation rate of 2.9%.

In February, Argentina's basic food basket (CBA), utilized to measure indigence, experienced a monthly increase of 3.2%, outpacing the inflation rate which stood at 2.9%. This discrepancy highlights a troubling trend where the essential cost for basic food items rises faster than the overall inflation rate, putting additional pressure on those living in poverty. The basic total basket (CBT), which is used to define poverty levels, also saw a notable increase of 2.7%. The consumer price index (CPI) data showed that food prices were the most significant contributors to inflation during this period, marking a 3.3% increase, which further fueled the rise in the CBA.
