Latvia's wheelchair curling mixed team loses to Italy, secures 7th place in the Paralympic Games

Latvia's wheelchair curling mixed team finished in 7th place after losing to Italy and won three out of the nine matches in the tournament.

Latvia's wheelchair curling mixed team concluded their Paralympic campaign with a 7th place finish, winning three out of nine matches. Their final game against Italy resulted in a loss that eliminated their chances of advancing to the semifinals. Latvian coach Rihards Jeske acknowledged that while the team's start was promising, stronger opponents in the middle of the tournament tilted the balance against them.

In a post-match interview, team captain Ojārs Briedis praised the Italian team for their excellent performance and key shots that made the competition particularly challenging. He described the atmosphere in the arena as reminiscent of a football stadium, full of noise and excitement. Despite the difficulties faced during the matches, Briedis expressed satisfaction with the experience, noting it was unprecedented and rewarding for the team.

Briedis also mentioned that the Latvian team did not participate in the tournament with their strongest lineup, which makes their achievement of 7th place acceptable under the circumstances. Coach Jeske added that forming a wheelchair curling team involves a different approach compared to other team sports, highlighting the unique nature of the sport and the challenges it presents in competition.
