Iberia launches a voluntary employment adjustment for 996 employees

Iberia has initiated a voluntary redundancy plan affecting 996 employees as part of an Employment Regulation File (ERE), which includes significant layoffs among both ground and flight staff.

Iberia Airlines has announced a voluntary employment adjustment plan that will affect a total of 996 employees. The company, which currently employs over 14,000 staff, has registered an Employment Regulation File (ERE) with the Madrid Directorate General of Labor. This step is part of the airline's strategic decision to streamline its workforce amid current market conditions and demands, leading to anticipated layoffs primarily among ground staff and flight crew.

The breakdown of the planned redundancies indicates that 753 positions will be eliminated from the ground staff category, which includes maintenance, production, and other support functions. Specifically, 305 will come from maintenance, 243 from ground production, and 205 from other operational areas. Additionally, a total of 243 flight crew positions may also be impacted. The implementation of this plan was prompted by ongoing demands from part of Iberia's workforce for voluntary departures, signaling a trend within the airline industry towards restructuring labor forces.

The establishment of a negotiating committee consisting of company representatives and worker unions marks the beginning of discussions aimed at finalizing the terms of the redundancy plan.
