The Union of Different Learners has launched a training program for pet owners that focuses on how pets can assist individuals with learning challenges. This initiative aims to promote equal opportunities for people with learning difficulties in various aspects of life, including education and societal participation. By incorporating animals into the learning experience, the program encourages pet owners to recognize the supportive roles their pets can play.

The training, which is free and available online, is taught by animal trainer Susanna Hämäläinen from Eurajoki, who explains that even a simple presence of a pet, such as a lounging cat, can provide emotional support for its owner. The essence of this training lies in the idea that the individual must feel that they are receiving support from their pet, thus highlighting the importance of the human-animal bond in learning and mental well-being.

In addition to outlining the benefits of having a pet for emotional support, the program emphasizes the responsibility of ensuring that the animal's welfare is prioritized.
