Johannes Kläbo Taken to Hospital

Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Kläbo was taken to the hospital after a severe fall during a World Cup sprint competition in Drammen.

Johannes Kläbo, a celebrated Norwegian cross-country skier, suffered a significant fall during the sprint competition at the World Cup in Drammen on Thursday. The incident occurred when American skier Ben Ogden slipped on Kläbo's skis, causing Kläbo to crash onto the snow. He hit his head hard and was left lying on the ground, which ultimately forced him to withdraw from the race. This fall also ended Kläbo's impressive streak of 13 consecutive victories in competitions.

After the accident, local media reported that Kläbo was taken to the hospital for evaluation. His sprint coach, Arild Monsen, confirmed that he had spoken to Kläbo while he was in the ambulance. According to Monsen, Kläbo struck the back of his head and was undergoing hospital tests although he was responsive and able to speak. His condition seemed stable but required medical examination to assess any potential head injury.

The incident raised concerns among commentators and fellow athletes. Norwegian expert Petter Northug, who was observing the race, expressed shock at the severity of the crash, describing it as brutal and unsettling. He conveyed hopes for Kläbo's swift recovery and emphasized the dangers inherent in competitive skiing, especially at elite levels where accidents can occur suddenly and severely.
