Undeclared Work: Which Sectors Are Under Scrutiny

The Greek Labor Inspection Agency is launching targeted checks to combat undeclared work in various sectors.

The Greek Labor Inspection Agency has identified undeclared work as a significant issue and will be implementing extensive checks to address it. The focus will be on specific sectors of the economy where violations of labor laws are increasingly observed, aiming to reduce the phenomenon of employing workers without proper declarations or with irregular working conditions.

Among the sectors that will be subjected to scrutiny are food services, craft parks, industrial zones, hair salons, gas stations, automotive workshops, transportation companies, retail, cleaning services, construction, hospitality, security services, and manufacturing companies, all of which have been shown to have high rates of non-compliance. The aim is to create a more equitable labor market and ensure that workers are recognized and protected under prevailing labor laws.

Significant financial penalties are associated with undeclared work, with fines set at €10,500 for every undeclared worker, which can rise to €31,500 for severe violations. These financial repercussions underscore the government’s commitment to eradicating undeclared employment practices and ensuring fair labor standards are upheld throughout the Greek economy.
