Video: water invades road between two cities in PI and hinders passage of residents

A video shows a portion of the highway between Campinas do Piauí and Floresta do Piauí completely flooded after heavy rains in the region, obstructing vehicle and pedestrian passage.

A recent video captured the aftermath of severe rainfall in the Central-South region of Piauí, Brazil, highlighting a flooded stretch of the highway that connects the cities of Campinas do Piauí and Floresta do Piauí. The strong currents of water were seen overwhelming the road, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to navigate through the affected area. Local authorities confirmed that the flooding was a result of rainwater flowing down from the hills and pooling in low-lying areas, particularly near a creek that is situated alongside the highway.

According to Francisco Araújo, the Secretary of Administration for Floresta do Piauí, the flooding was reported on Tuesday, October 10, and while the water flow can be intense during and shortly after rain, it usually subsides within a few hours. The secretary explained that the creek absorbs the excess water and gradually releases it into the Canindé River, ensuring that the flooding does not persist for extended periods. He advised caution, recommending that both residents and drivers avoid crossing the flooded area while there is strong current.

This flooding incident emphasizes the impact of seasonal rains on local infrastructure and the importance of community awareness regarding weather conditions. Such events can disrupt transportation and present risks to safety, thereby necessitating swift responses from local government officials to manage the flood risks and inform the public adequately about the dangers present during inclement weather conditions.
