6 Attacks on Ships in 24 Hours in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf

Six ships have been attacked in less than 24 hours in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf, marking a significant escalation in the region.

In a notable escalation in the Arabian Gulf, six ships have come under attack in less than 24 hours, with three vessels attacked on Thursday morning alone. This comes after three similar attacks were reported the previous day, highlighting rising tensions in one of the world's most crucial maritime corridors. The series of attacks has raised security concerns among shipping entities operating in the region, drawing the attention of international maritime authorities.

The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued a security alert regarding the attack on a container ship hit by an unidentified projectile approximately 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, UKMTO reported that two oil tankers came under attack from projectiles while about 5 nautical miles south of Basra, Iraq, resulting in a fire aboard one of the vessels. This has prompted local authorities to increase surveillance and protection measures for shipping traffic in the area, a vital route for global oil transportation.

The Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) confirmed that the tankers "SAFESEA VISHNU" and "ZEFYROS," which were in the loading area within Iraqi territorial waters, were targeted during these assaults. The string of attacks raises alarms regarding the safety of maritime operations in the Gulf region, amidst an already tense geopolitical climate, particularly between Iran and neighboring states. As international maritime authorities assess the implications, this incident could have repercussions on oil prices and global energy security, urging stakeholders to reconsider transportation routes amidst growing risks.
