Young man dies after being hit by a vehicle in Girona, who had previously attacked five people

An 18-year-old man in Girona who attacked multiple family members and a neighbor was later killed in a traffic accident during the police pursuit.

An 18-year-old man from Sant Feliu de Buixalleu, Girona, was involved in a violent incident where he attacked his family with a knife, injuring his parents and younger brother. Following this, he fled and entered a neighbor's home, where he assaulted an elderly woman and a young child with a blunt object. The local police, Mossos d'Esquadra, were alerted and began a search for the attacker, who was suspected to have a mental health condition.

Despite the establishment of a control operation on the highways to locate him, the police could not find the young man until they were informed of a fatal traffic accident on the AP-7 highway in Sant Celoni. The accident occurred around four in the morning, and it was discovered that the young man was the victim of this unfortunate event while he was fleeing from the immediate aftermath of his attacks.

This incident raises critical questions about mental health support and the mechanisms in place for addressing violent behavior, particularly concerning youth. The failure to intercept the young man earlier during the police operation highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in such unpredictable scenarios, especially when mental health issues are involved.
