There are no permits for the curfew: Who can circulate or exit during its duration?
Four provinces in Ecuador will be under a curfew from March 15 to March 30, requiring residents to stay at home from 11 PM to 5 AM.
Ecuador has imposed a curfew from March 15 to March 30 for the provinces of Guayas, Los RÃos, Santo Domingo, and El Oro, during which residents are required to remain indoors from 11 PM to 5 AM. This initiative, announced by Interior Minister John Reimberg, aims to combat illegal economies, illicit mining, drug trafficking, and criminal structures that have been a significant concern in these regions.
The Minister emphasized that the government's approach this time will be particularly forceful, distinguishing it from previous curfews. Emergency personnel including doctors, firefighters, and police are exempted from this restriction and may operate around the clock. Furthermore, individuals with valid travel documents, such as those on flights or urgent travel, are allowed to move, increasing the need for regulations to manage these exceptions appropriately.
While the measures aim to restore order and tackle crime, there is an expressed understanding of the challenges faced by residents during these times. The government's focus on security indicates a broader strategy to stabilize affected areas, although the heavy enforcement raises questions about civil liberties and community response during such restrictive measures.
