India, now the world's most populous country as of 2023, is experiencing a critical energy emergency due to its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reserves, which are projected to last only ten days. The situation has been exacerbated by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, prompting the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to urgently seek alternative gas suppliers. In this context, Argentina has emerged as a viable option for gas exports, offering immediate assistance amid the growing energy demands.

Despite the geographic distance between India and Argentina, which typically makes such transactions less profitable, the urgency of the situation has altered the economic calculations. Indian state-run companies are reportedly paying steep premiums of up to $400 per ton to secure these necessary supplies. This development not only highlights India's pressing energy needs but also positions Argentina's energy industry, particularly its Vaca Muerta gas fields, as a potential key player in international gas markets, aiming to increase exports of associated gases.

As Argentine companies begin to send shipments to India, they are also exploring ways to expand their natural gas exports further, especially given the rising global demand for energy due to geopolitical tensions.
