The disciplinary committee cannot punish the physiotherapist for kicking Kuchta. It calls on Slavia to take action
The disciplinary committee of the Czech Football Association cannot sanction Slavia's physiotherapist for kicking player Jan Kuchta due to membership issues, but is taking action against Slavia for failing to prevent the incident.
The disciplinary committee of the Czech Football Association has announced that it cannot impose sanctions on Daniel Berger, the physiotherapist of Slavia Prague, for kicking Sparta Prague's forward Jan Kuchta during the halftime break of the recent Prague derby. The ruling comes as Berger is not a member of the Football Association of the Czech Republic, which limits the committee's jurisdiction over his actions. However, the committee is moving forward to hold Slavia Prague accountable, indicating that the home club failed to prevent the incident from occurring.
Following the violent altercation during the match that is part of the 25th round of the league, in which a brief video circulated showing Berger kicking Kuchta, the disciplinary committee characterized the physiotherapist's behavior as an "incomprehensible failure" that crossed the boundaries of acceptable emotional responses. Additionally, other clubs, including Sparta Prague and Baník Ostrava, have been penalized with fines due to fan disturbances that occurred after their matches, amounting to 150,000 crowns each.
The incident has raised significant concerns surrounding conduct and responsibility within Czech football clubs, leading to discussions about the need for stricter regulations and protocols regarding the behavior of team personnel. As the disciplinary committee engages with Slavia to ensure future compliance, the incident highlights broader issues related to sportsmanship and the expectations from individuals affiliated with professional sports teams.
